About the Job Role
Overview:
A Salad Maker / Sushi Maker is responsible for preparing high-quality salads or sushi dishes, ensuring freshness, presentation, and taste. They work in restaurants, hotels, catering services, or sushi bars, following strict food safety and hygiene standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Salad Maker Duties:
- Prepare and assemble fresh salads according to menu specifications.
- Wash, cut, and mix ingredients such as vegetables, fruits, meats, and dressings.
- Ensure the freshness and quality of ingredients.
- Arrange and garnish salads for attractive presentation.
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation.
- Monitor stock levels and replenish ingredients as needed.
- Follow food safety and hygiene regulations.
- Assist in menu development by suggesting new salad recipes.
Sushi Maker Duties:
- Prepare and roll sushi, including maki, nigiri, and sashimi, following traditional or modern techniques.
- Select and cut high-quality seafood, vegetables, and other ingredients.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of raw fish and other perishable items.
- Create visually appealing sushi platters with proper garnishing.
- Maintain a clean and sanitized sushi station.
- Follow food safety guidelines, especially regarding raw fish handling.
- Monitor inventory and ensure freshness of sushi ingredients.
- Assist in developing new sushi recipes or special menu items.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Salad Maker, Sushi Chef, or in a similar food preparation role is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and handling of fresh ingredients.
- Knife skills and ability to cut and prepare ingredients efficiently.
- Creativity in food presentation and plating.
- Strong attention to detail and time management.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Willingness to learn and follow instructions from senior chefs.
Work Environment:
- Restaurants, hotels, catering services, or sushi bars.
- May require working weekends, holidays, or late shifts.
- Standing for long hours and handling sharp kitchen tools.
